Goodbye....

Hey there! I guess I finish where I started…72 days ago I sat here in Costa with my head in my hands wondering how the heck I am to write a blog. Here I am 10 weeks later, and I would like to say I’ve made progress and learnt something new! Speaking of progress, this morning myself and some friends held a workshop on big data and business intelligence (not something I thought I would ever do and even more, enjoy). Go have a look at their blogs if that is something that interests you:  Rachael's Digital Economy Blogs  ,  Hazel's Digital Times  and  Rachel's Digital Economy Blogs  . I’m not sure if you remember, but I actually done a blog post on this a few weeks ago, feel free to read if you haven't already!  Big Data Blog  & if that doesn't work: https://laurlogsdigitaleconomy.blogspot.com/2023/10/big-data.html It was interesting to see the research I did for my blog, as well as the material I learnt in class and applying that to a real-li...

Why companies struggle with IT implementation?

Hey there!

My restless thoughts of the week: why do companies struggle with information systems implementation? And do most companies fail sue to lack of planning and miscommunication?

Staff: in order to meet the needs of the project. Staff must know what their expected role is. If staff lack the capabilities to adopt to new technology, additional IT training is necessary and puts further cost onto the company.

Cost: some companies struggle with poor financial management and improve budget scaling. By concentrating on just one aspect of the project, the risk of getting sidetracked increases and therefore increases overall cost.

IT within company: Companies must ensure that its software has flexible IT solutions when updating it as technology always changes and updates required.

Scale of project: companies want to expand, but its crucial to keep the initial project simple. If there are too many variables and costs to manage in a large project, it is too much to handle when they first begin.

Transfer of data: in order for the data to be transferred between systems, data integrity must be guaranteed when transferring data from current systems to the new system. They must continue to check the data at each stage of the data transfer process because they could lose crucial information.

An example I found intriguing was that the US Navy lost almost $1 billion in 1988 as a result of implementing four ERP systems based on SAP AG software. The installation clashed and were incompatible and ultimately failed to meet Navy requirements because “94% of problems in business are systems driven and only 6% are people driven” – W. Edwards Deming

I hope I didn’t bore you with too many facts but it really is fascinating!

Once again, thanks for keeping me company 👍
